All Things Tech - Starting With Cloud

It's been 6 years since I became a part of what is now widely known as the "Cloud" industry - actually even longer (considering that I started doing on demand print services in 2004).  When I look back at all these years, and try to see what has changed, some of the things that come to mind:
- The sheer noise in the market - the number of players, the research coverage, the PR statements about the investments being made
- Attempts to create some standards (this has not yet happened at an industry level)
- The general acceptance and maturity of Cloud being here to stay
- The maturity of the industry and of customers, with the resolution of some early stage challenges - these include clearer ROIs for customers backed by use case scenarios, transparent security standards by service providers and the ability provide flexibility but standardization
- Major moves by telecom operators into different forms of cloud for various reasons (will be captured in a different blog)

Basically, certain myths have become more grounded in reality (panacea for all problems, not secure, short term trend), whereas certain myths have come true (ROI in certain scenarios, secure (in most cases), here to stay).  Every organization along the ICT consumption food chain has made an attempt to be associated with it, either making strategic and tactical business changes, or atleast the right marketing statements.

Overall, while there is enough noise about it, the fact remains (and I hate to sound what may appear to be a pessimistic note),  that Cloud is effectively a delivery / commercial / technical / all of the previous / model to meet one fundamental customer need - a technology tool to solve their business pains.  Organizations adopting Cloud don't really care about the jargon being used, as long as their business needs are being addressed.  Yes, some may have a lot of technical questions, but the fundamental issues remain the age old IT query - how can this technology meet and solve my business needs, in the fastest time possible, in the most cost effective manner.

This is the first in a series of musings around multiple things, all related to some of the newer age technologies that are being adopted by enterprises (and consumers, the line really not existing any longer).
